Scintigraphic Demonstration of Chilaiditi Syndrome

Abstract
|

|
A 64-year-old female patient was referred to our division of nuclear medicine for further evaluation of the right upper quadrant pain. She was intermittently suffered from the pain for more than 10 years. Otherwise has no specific illness.
The liver scan shows a photopenic lesion in the anterior segment of the right lobe (Fig. 1). Her chest X-ray shows a gas shadow below the right diaphragm (Fig. 2). So the cold lesion in the right lobe is
thought to be due to interposition of the colon between right diaphragm and hepatic dome. To certify it, she drank 18.5 MBq of 99mTc-tin colloid with 300 ml of saline. After 24 hour a delayed imaging of the liver was done, which showed filling of radiocolloid in the photopenic area in the right lobe of liver (Fig. 3). Therefore the diagnosis of Chilaiditi syndrome was made scintigraphically.
